Ariel Szarfsztejn is the current president of Commerce at Mercado Libre. In this role, he is responsible for the e-commerce business across Latin America, which includes Marketplace (third-party sellers), Retail, Ads, Logistics and Fulfillment services. Ariel joined Mercado Libre in 2017 as VP of Strategy and Corporate Development. After a year in this seat, he moved to Mercado Envíos, where lead the design, planning and execution of all the logistics and fulfillment operations for the company for four years. Before joining Mercado Libre, Ariel worked at Despegar, where he was responsible for managing the Hotels Business Unit. Prior to that, he spent several years leading strategy consulting projects for Boston Consulting Group in Latin America. Ariel holds a Cum Laude Degree in Economics from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and has an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. In January 2026, Ariel will transition into the role of CEO of Mercado Libre
