For Ally and Casey, what started as a daily ritual eventually blossomed into their burgeoning business, Canyon Coffee. If you’re looking to elevate the experience, we highly recommend trying a pour over and the wonderful Ally Walsh and Casey Wojtalewicz have shared their tutorial here with us. We sat down with the pair to chat about their favorite selfcare rituals and why attention to details makes all the difference in coffee making.
OSEA:
Coffee making can be such an enjoyable daily ritual. How did you first get interested in being so intentional around the process?
ALLY & CASEY:
The process itself lended towards being intentional – once we switched to making pour overs at home. That switch itself was unintentional. Casey broke our old french press one day, and when he went to a coffee shop to get a replacement, they were out of presses but had Chemex! The difference in taste was noticeable immediately, and that really piqued our general interest in brewing.
The act of making a pour over just requires a bit more attention to detail. And once you get used to it, it only feels that natural that you start to sink in and lose yourself to the little ritual. It’s an inherently relaxing, mindful practice.
OSEA:
Describe your ideal morning...
A&C:
Wake up, put some music on (usually our Bossa California playlist), make coffee, bring a cup to whichever one of us is still in bed, sit outside (or in bed?) and journal or read whatever book or magazine is calling. End the morning with a walk around Elysian Park nearby.
OSEA:
Are there any daily selfcare rituals that are important to you? What does selfcare mean to you?
A&C:
Meditating, going on walks, taking time to consciously pause and relax at the end of the work day. And we usually try to get out to the ocean or into nature at least once a week.
OSEA:
Do you have any favorite OSEA products?
A&C:
Hyaluronic Sea Serum and Sea Minerals Mist. I’ve been keeping the Sea Minerals Mist in my fridge! It’s so nice and refreshing on hot days.
