As we celebrate Earth Month, I wanted to share a story that's very close to my heart - one that reflects my deep gratitude for the ocean, the environment, and the inspiration behind our brand.
OSEA was inspired by great-grandmother, Elsa, who believed in the healing power of the sea and saw it first hand in her own life. At 44, Elsa had a bad fall that left her bedridden. One night, she dreamed that the waters healed her, and the next morning, she asked my great grandfather to take her to the Long Island Sound to swim. It was December and freezing but she went anyway. Elsa swam in the ocean every day for weeks, and her leg miraculously healed. It was this deep connection to the ocean that inspired my Mom to make seaweed and the power of the sea the core of our brand.
I was raised with this core belief in the sea and I was lucky enough to spend countless hours in the water.. The ocean was and is a constant presence in my life, and it always feels like a loving embrace and the ultimate mood shifter. I am so honored to be able to continue this legacy of my Mother and the women of my family.
This Earth Month, I'm thrilled that OSEA is sponsoring the cleanup of the PCH in Malibu (the birthplace of OSEA) through the "Adopt-a-Highway" program through 2024. Since its inception in 1989, more than 120,000 Californians have cleaned and enhanced over 15,000 shoulder-miles of roadside. By supporting the "Adopt-a-Highway" program, we're able to deepen our love and commitment to the state that has given us so much. Our support helps to ensure that our iconic coastal road remains pristine for generations to come.
Sustainability has always been at the core of everything we do and I’m so proud we’re a Climate Neutral Certified and Ocean Positive Verified brand and now able to support Malibu in this way.
As our family celebrates our 27th year of OSEA, our mission remains the same- to provide skincare that makes you feel good and is good to our planet. Thank you for being a part of our journey and making this all possible.
With love and gratitude,
Melissa
